We kicked off with a freezing cold morning. but by the time the teams were picked the sun had come up and it was starting to get "warm" (well warmer).
Because of the number of cutters we had two hedges, one mostly Beach the other mostly Thorn, and split each in half so each team had the same to work on.
After the traditional Beer mat draw (Phil must have cleared the local pub out!) we kicked off.
The Thorn hedge was on a small hillock which had caused some of the plants to die, and some others to be a little brittle.
Some time after we had started Mike Parrott was thrown off his section of hedge, because he was working for the wrong team!
The cutting went well, but then stopped abruptly while we waited for the stakes and binders to arrive. much tea was drunk and helpful comments issued to those who were still working.
The stakes duly arrived, delivered by Bob, and were issued. sadly we managed to miscalculate and were a few short. Lucky a bit of a rummage around the yard we found some fence posts, all be it a bit large, luck was still with us as we had David Dunk on hand to split them down to a manageable size.
At full time the presidents team were finished, but the Chairman’s team were still finishing off the last bit of binding.
Alec our host inspected the hedge and awarded the prize to the President
Well done to everyone
