We had all seen the hedge and knew it was another tough one, a chainsaw day for sure. The weather was overcast, but it stayed dry. We generally worked in pairs, so it was a good chance to chat while we worked. We didn't have quite enough people, so it was good some of the faster workers managed an extra cant which allowed us to finish the whole hedge. We had the same problem we had at the PvC event - with brittle stems snapping. this time we did a lot more root laying which is something we don't often get to do. The binders were a bit past their sell by date and were very brittle but had just enough flex left in them without breaking.
The finished hedge looked really good, so it shows what you can do with some really horrible gappy trees. We should re-visit later in the year and see the re-growth.
Gary and Peter were busy selling old tools, and both wet away with some extra cash.
Ed, Gemma and family put on another great BBQ (and cake) for lunch, so this venue is most definitely at the top of our favourite places to visit. They have loads more old hedges so hopefully we will be back next season.
