Although stakes and binders do grow on trees, it takes a lot of effort to harvest this number in a day and everyone applied themselves admirably, overcoming the wet and mud.
Special thanks must go to Kate Faulkner and her family who allowed the use of the barn to meet up in and off their own initiative provide soup , Christmas cake and something to sit on at lunchtime , which was very welcome and much needed. Kate is a leading light in the Selborne Land Partnership - a collection of local farms that promote sustainable farming methods and increasing biodiversity. Our coppicing helps their cause.
Thanks also to Peter and Pat, who travelled to and from Essex, to tirelessly tied up stakes and binders, with good humour and fortitude.
With the stakes and binders added to our stockpiles , we now move into full on hedge laying mode with The Improvers Day on 7 January and President v Chairman Competition on 21 January. Look out for messages from Frank via Mailchimp and put your name forward.
