The hedge was of a very different character to those that we had visited previously but with the assistance of several chainsaw stewards the trainee section all went down OK and made into a decent hedge. Everyone had taken on board the almost religious mantra of crossing the stems over to be held by the stake line but this was self-evidently not possible here. A good job done by all the trainees who adapted well to the challenge. The winners were Wendy and James who made a smart-looking hedge with the pleachers nicely covered (see picture below). Only Wendy was there at the end to receive the trophy from President Mike Parrott. The more experienced cutters put down a challengingly large hedge with aplomb and another smart result with impressively large brash piles.

He managed to extricate himself with the use of the large tractor that the farmer had left for just such an eventuality. Everybody seemed to cope cheerfully with the challenges. Well done to all.
